English grown, heritage barley will be traditionally floor malted in England’s oldest working maltings, before being mashed by hand and fermented for 5-7 days at the distillery. The resulting wash will be double-distilled in our beautiful 900 litre Tasmanian copper pot still, which is powered by 100% renewable energy and the only one of its kind in the Northern Hemisphere. On-site maturation follows, in casks tended to by one of the country’s last Master Coopers.

This will create an authentic and unique English whisky influenced by our Yorkshire surroundings. The resulting whisky can be traced from farm to bottle and will boast a flavour profile unlike any other in the UK, thanks to inspiration drawn from our experiences in Tasmania.

In 2014, founders Abbie and Chris - once a scientist and an architect - left the rat race and travelled across the globe to Australia in search of sun, sand and adventure. It is here that they fell in love with Tasmanian whisky and learnt how it came to be crowned the World’s Best that year in the World Whiskies Awards.

Inspired by the ingenuity and determination of the Tasmanian distillers and the quality of their whisky, they returned to England to establish one of England’s most innovative distilleries. Cooper King Distillery is a self-built, independent and family-owned distillery in rural Yorkshire, 10 miles north of York.

The Cask Offer comprises of a 100-litre first-fill ex-bourbon cask, filled with new-make spirit distilled at Cooper King Distillery, and full-term maturation in our insured on-site bonded warehouse. You are welcome to visit your cask by appointment and on Cask Owners’ Days.

Our new-make spirit is world-class, having won a prestigious Gold Medal at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC). This medal is only awarded if the liquid is “an excellent spirit with an exceptional balance and rare and complex flavours. An example that stands out against its peers.” – IWSC

The new-make spirit is matured in small casks, providing an excellent wood-to-spirit ratio and creating a fruity, complex and full-bodied whisky in 3 to 5 years. We will provide you with an initial 100ml new-make sample and subsequent 100ml maturing malt samples, drawn from your cask each year, so that you can taste your spirit as it matures. We will advise when your whisky is at its best, before hand bottling, labelling and individually numbering at the distillery. The cask is yours to keep after maturation.

This is a unique opportunity to own a part of English whisky history and to become a member of the Cooper King family.

In addition to owning your private cask of maturing spirit, you will also receive a Cask Owner’s Toolbox. This includes: a signed letter from the distillery founders; Cooper King whisky glasses, spirit measures and lapel badges (with enough for you to share amongst friends) and an exclusive Cask Owner’s jacket.

For the duration of your cask ownership you will benefit from: 10% discount off purchases at the distillery and online; access to future special single cask bottlings; a complimentary tour of the distillery; exclusive access to Cask Owners’ Days, held at the distillery.

The price is £3,750 per cask and includes the cost of the new-make spirit, the cask itself, warehousing and insurance for a period of up to 5 years from the date the cask is filled. This is the only sum required to secure your cask.

The remaining costs (bottling and labelling, Duty and VAT) are payable after maturation. Your cask is estimated to yield between 125-150 70cl bottles of whisky, with a total cost per bottle in the range of £50-£59. Our current single cask whisky releases retail for £115 per bottle.
